The Prince and the 108 Demons (2014), also known as 108 Rois-Démons, is a French animated adventure inspired by the Chinese classic Water Margin. The story is set in ancient China, where young Prince Duan is suddenly thrust into a battle for his kingdom’s survival. With his father, the Emperor, gravely ill, the throne and empire face threats from corrupt officials and dangerous warlords.
Determined to prove his worth, Prince Duan embarks on a journey alongside his loyal friend, the monk Zhang, and a clever street orphan named Pei Pei. Their mission takes them into the heart of danger, where they must unite a band of legendary outlaws—each with extraordinary skills but known as the “108 Demons” because of their rebellious reputations.
As Duan learns to lead and earn the respect of these warriors, he also struggles with his own fears and insecurities. Together, they fight epic battles against treacherous enemies, face mystical trials, and discover the strength that comes from unity and loyalty.
In the end, Prince Duan transforms from a hesitant youth into a courageous leader, showing that true kingship is not about power but about wisdom, friendship, and justice.
